What are the components of a typical voice lesson?

1. Getting Started

  • Students discuss their progress during at home practice time, upcoming auditions, repertoire requests, and general business.

2. Warm-Up

  • Warm-ups are tailored to each singer’s voice, maturity, technical needs, and repertoire. Students are encouraged to record their warm-ups in lessons and sing along to them during the week.

3. Repertoire

  • Students workshop pieces technically and dramatically to achieve their desired performance goals. Teachers will assign repertoire designed to work on specific technical goals but students are encouraged to bring in their own selections as well.

4. Closing

  • Review progress towards goals and assign appropriate practice for the upcoming week.
